Gornall H – 1935

BB Gazette Vol.44 No.3 – The Boys’ Brigade Cross for Heroism has been awarded to Lance-Corporal Harry Gornall, aged fourteen, of the 4th Windsor Company, Ontario, Canada, for saving a Boy from drowning in the Detroit River, on the 3rd of June. It was a holiday and a party of Boys were at the riverside. The day being very cold, they decided not to swim, except one Boy who went in. He was so scared by the cold that he lost control and sank in deep water. He then rose to the surface and Gornall, seeing him in trouble, entered the water and although the Boy had sink again he ultimately found him and brought him safely to the shore.

Hearty congratulations to our comrades in the West on the first Cross to go to Canada.
