Dundee Evening Telegraph, 30th September 1910. – The Executive of the Boys’ Brigade have awarded the Boys’ Brigade Cross for Heroism to Private Albert Marrs, aged 17, 20th Belfast Company, for saving a child from a burning house.

Belfast Weekly News, 29th September 1910. – At a meeting of the Boys’ Brigade Executive, held on the 24th inst. At Brighton, the Brigade Cross for Heroism was conferred upon Private Albert Marrs, of the 20th Belfast Company, connected with the Willowfield Parish Church. The action for which this much coveted distinction was awarded to him took place early in June, when he was returning from a parade of the 2nd Belfast Troop of Boy Scouts, of which he is also a member. Hearing the alarm of ‘fire’ given by a woman in the street in which he lives, he ran down and found a bedroom on fire, the bed and curtains being well alight. Being informed that a child was on the bed, he entered the room at considerable risk to himself and first rescued the child, whom he pulled down the burning curtains, and with blankets smothered the flames. Fortunately he was himself uninjured, except for some slight scorching of his hands.
