Sharpe W – 1924

Newspaper account of the Presentation – His Royal Highness the Duke of York reviewed ten thousand members of the Boys’ and Girls’ Life Brigade at the Alexandra Palace Muswell Hill, London on Saturday. Contingents were present from leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham, Oldham, Northampton, Newcastle, Middlesborough, Hull, Derby, and Gateshead among other places.

Before leaving, the Duke of York presented Private W Sharpe of the 10th Leeds Company with the Brigade Cross for Courage. At great personal risk and with much presence of mind Sharpe rescued a young child who would otherwise have been killed by a tramcar.
