Hocking J – 1905

BB Gazette Vol.13 No.5 – The Brigade Executive have awarded the Cross for Heroism to Private James Hocking (aged 15), 2nd Plymouth Company, for having saved the life of a Boy, by diving into deep water from a height of 15 feet, swimming out to the Boy, who was unable to swim, swimming back with him to the quay wall, and holding on to a crevice in the wall until they were both rescued by a boat.
