Trim N – 1947

BB Gazette Vol.65 No.1 – The Cross for heroism has been awarded to Private Norman Charles Trim, aged 12, of 2nd Plymouth Company, for saving a younger Boy from drowning at Sutton Harbour Pierhead, Plymouth.

Approaching the waterside, the Boy had slipped and fallen in, and was being carried away by the strong tide, when he managed to grip one of the piles. Trim, shedding clothes as he ran, sped some fifty yards and dived twenty feet into deep water, swimming about a hundred feet to reach the nearly exhausted Boy, and then conveyed him another ninety feet to safety. The Boy was on the verge of collapse when rescued, and Trim’s prompt and courageous action in effecting the rescue on an ebbing tide undoubtedly was the means of saving the Boy’s life. Trim has also received the Parchment Testimonial of the Royal Humane Society.
