In the Bechuanaland Protectorate (now Botswana) the Boys’ Life Brigade had started a Company in the early 1920’s, whilst shortly after the union of the two organisations, the London Missionary Society had promoted two companies the 1st and 2nd  Molepolole both enrolled in the BB Gazette at the end of 1926. Soon afterwards, units were started at Kafue and Serowe and later at Ngami ‘on the edge of the Kalahari desert, with the nearest B.B. Company distant ten weeks by ox-waggon’. At Serowe under the Rev. J.H.L. Burns, sometime secretary of the Brigade in the Protectorate, the movement (including the Life Boy Team started in 1930) grew to 270 boys before the War. One important feature of the work at Serowe was the support given by the royal family of Chief Tshekedi.
By the early 1960’s the BB UK Annual Report was only recording one Company in Maun, with a membership of 48 Boys and Officers. At the time of independence in 1966, and a change of name to Botswana, The Boys’ Brigade had ceased to exist.

Rev. James Scott of the 3rd Aberdeen writing in the BB Gazette of November 1911, reported on efforts to start a BB Company in Alexandria, Egypt, with records showing that a BB Company was enrolled at the Church of Scotland Jewish Mission Boys School on the 26th July 1912 with Rev. Scott as Company Captain.
The August 1925 edition of the Life Brigade Chronical of The Boys’ Life Brigade recorded the formation of the 1st Alexandria Company  at St. Andrew’s (Church of Scotland) Boys School, Alexandria, Egypt. J Walker was appointed Captain, with A Robertson as Chaplain.
This Company was disbanded on instruction from the Headmaster of the school at the beginning of 1931.

The Boys’ Brigade started in Rwanda in 1966 with the formation of the 1st Rwanda Company at the Shyira Anglican Church, the second a few years later in 1969 at the Anglican Church in Shyogwe.
By 1973 it was reported that through the efforts of Eric Townson, Anglican youth worker the BB in Rwanda had a strength of 44 Companies and some 900 Boys, however political unrest in the country in the mid 1970’s resulted in a decline in membership.
By the end of the political turmoil in Rwanda in the early 1990’s all Boys’ Brigade Companies had ceased to operate. In the late 1990’s the Global Fellowship embarked on restarting youth work in Rwanda. Leader training in 1999, with the support of the BB in Uganda resulted in the formation of a Company in 1999 with a membership of over 80 young people.

Just over fifty Brigade companies were formed in the two British colonies and two Boer republics of South Africa between 1889 and 1899. It says much for the B.B. founders in that period that boy membership embraced most races: African, Coloured and European, including ‘one Company almost exclusively of Dutch Boys’ in the Transvaal. The consistent strength of the early movement lay in the Cape Colony, particularly in the Cape Town Battalion (formed 1894) – which had 500 members in sixteen units by 1895 – and its outreach work at Port Elizabeth where a battalion was formed in 1897.
The Anglo Boer war, racial segregation and political turmoil has had its effects on The Boys’ Brigade in South Africa, and the main centres of BB activity has tended to remain in the main urban centres.
The only Boys’ Brigade in the Sudan operated for 8 years between 1936 and 1943. The 1st Kuku Company was attached to the Church Missionary Society Juba, Sudan. The Company was renamed the 1st Kajo Kaji in 1937. During its 8 year existence it had an average membership of 40 Boys and 2 Officers.
Between 1920 and 1940 Boys’ Brigade Companies in the UK supported hospital beds in the Sudan through the B.B. Branch of the C.M.S. Medical Mission Auxiliary.

The earliest reference to Tanganyika, which become Tanzania in 1964, is in the BB Gazette dated 1894, however it is not until December 1936 that a Company was enrolled in Tanganyika. The 1st Sikonge, attached to the The Moravian Mission at Sikonge in the southern part of the country followed by the 1st Kakola in 1949. In the early 1950’s BB work was supported by Danish Missionaries affiliated with the FDF.

In 2002, The Boys’ Brigade was restarted in Tanzania existing solely through the Anglican Church. By 2016, the membership was reported to number 46 companies with 1610 members, all within the Mara region.
