Shortly after its formation The Boys’ Life Brigade published a number of books in 1900, including Code of Rules and Regulations, which stated: The only distinctive uniform worn by Officers is a droop-peak Cap. On parade, a dark tweed or navy blue jacket suit should be worn, with ‘regulation tan’ gloves. Officers should carry a short brown military cane

Photographs from the period record a variety of uniforms being worn, and changes to the uniform was almost an annual occurrence at the annual Brigade council meetings held in September each year.

Introduced in June 1910, the boys buttonhole badge was authorised to wear in and out of uniform. The red enamel on early versions was prone to be rubbed off when polished, but was still however popular.
