McSpayden G – 2007

BB Gazette Vol.115 No.4 – Graeme McSpadyen of 1st Newmains Company helped rescue a neighbour from a fire. He broke a window and crawled inside and although he was battling the smoke, managed to open the front door to the house and then another neighbour and himself managed to get the neighbour out of the house and the fire under control as the Fire Brigade arrived. Chief Officer of Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, Mr B P Sweeney, said to Graeme “I am of the opinion that you, by virtue of breaking a window, crawling inside and opening the front door to allow the rescue of the occupant, showed courage and tenacity. As a result I would like to express the gratitude of the Fire & Rescue Service and my own personal congratulations and appreciation for your actions.”
