Hogarth A – 1947
BB Gazette Vol.56 No.1 – The Cross for Heroism has been awarded to Lance-Corporal Alexander McFarquar Hogarth, aged 16, of 243rd Glasgow Company, for saving a child from drowning in the Forth and Clyde Canal at Temple Bridge. Other children had raised the alarm and Hogarth, dashing to the spot, leaped, fully clothed, into the deep water which at this point is polluted by oil and grease. He reached the child and gripping him by his jacket swam back with him to the bank, where both Boys were assisted out of the water. For his gallant action, which certainly saved the child’s life, Hogarth has also been awarded the Glasgow Corporation Medal for Bravery.
